Salhouse Parish Plan Newsletter – June 2007 The Open Day – Saturday 9th June This was your chance, as we promised, for the village to see all the results from the returned questionnaires and to discuss them with the Steering Group members, all of whom were present. Working Groups had consulted with external agencies on issues you raised and were happy to discuss them with you. A significant amount of work took place in order to present a high standard presentation and a comprehensive analysis of the 378 completed Questionnaires. A Reminder of How We Got to this Point The Parish Plan process is a Countryside Agency initiative started in July 2001. It allows villagers to be consulted as to how they see their villages developing in the next 5-10years. This consultation process is conducted by the villagers themselves, sponsored by Parish Councils and funded by grants from Rural, Parish and District Councils. The Work to Date Salhouse embarked on the process in February last year with the formation of a Steering Group made up of volunteers and Parish Councillors. The 12 members of the Steering Group and co-opted members have given over 2000 volunteer hours. The Steering Group formed 6 Working Groups which gathered information for the First Open Day, which was held on Sat 8 Jul 2006, and the issues already highlighted were displayed. 252 villagers attended and contributed with their comments and suggestions, both written and through discussion with Steering Group members. All of this information, together with other known issues, was used to put together the household Questionnaire which you filled in last year. 636 questionnaires were distributed to occupied households, 378 were completed and returned (59.4%). More importantly, almost every road in the village returned over 50%; 901 villagers were represented (approx 55%). The analysis of these questionnaire returns formed the basis of the Open Day displays. The Way Ahead After reviewing any further comments arising from the Open Day, the Steering Group will start writing a draft Final Report and Action Plan, to give to the Parish Council. After the Parish Council has seen the results of the consultation with the village, it will be completed and printed. Households will receive their own copy of the Final Report which will differ from that going to external agencies, only in the form of presentation, to reduce costs. When the Final Reports are printed and distributed, the Steering Group will disband. Once the Parish Council has received the Final Report, the work to implement the Action Plan will be entrusted to them, as your representatives, to continue the Parish Plan process on your behalf.
